As cultural and ideological tensions regarding gender affirming care and the social inclusion of transsexuals escalate and play out in the media and courtrooms, we stand for human dignity and cooperation. We believe in the power of mutual respect, shared responsibility, and civil discourse to find fair, safe, and thoughtful solutions. We need a pathway forward that respects each person’s agency and dignity, where differing perspectives can be discussed without vitriol or fear. First and foremost, we are all human beings—not merely representatives of political, spiritual, or ideological camps. Our goal is to foster civil dialogue around different needs and perspectives among a range of stakeholders.
Among the key stakeholders are:
-
Clinicians
-
Educators
-
Parents
-
Transsexuals
-
Gay, lesbian, bisexual people (LGB)
-
Feminists, services for girls and women
-
Services for men and boys
-
Christian and other faith leaders
-
Policy-Makers
Through honest, reflective dialogue rooted in a desire to understand human need, we can craft solutions grounded in dignity—solutions that transcend political agendas and help shape just policies, laws and clinical practices. These efforts move us toward social integration and away from oppression.
We invite all who share this human-centered vision to join us under a big tent—Parallel Dignity.
